Energy

Energy is a significant system we all depend upon, but is the largest source of planetary harm. Burning fossil fuels like oil to heat our homes, power our businesses and fuel our vehicles continues to create unsustainable damage to Earth's biosphere (the ecosystem that enables us to live). 

To change the system we first need to recognise the role we all play. Sustainable Matamata works with businesses and local government to share knowledge with residents and advocate for a transition to renewable energy sources whilst improving local energy resilience through education and pathways to solutions like rooftop solar.

Sustainable Matamata also facilitates the local branch of Rewiring Aotearoa's community advocacy programme, 'Electrify Matamata'.
